In my ongoing research regarding parenting and being an artist, I have discovered a great site called Cultural ReProducers. It is a web based resource and community project that documents various aspects of families, organizations, events and efforts that revolve around intentionally supporting artists and their families.
The most recent article on Cultural ReProducers is about the Aguilar Family, a family of 6, who recently traveled to Queens, NY for a conference called Open Engagement. What I loved the most about the article, was hearing from the kids themselves about their experience being a part of an art performance with their family as a whole.
I love the idea of being so intentional and traveling specifically to create a family experience in the arts. A much different experience than say, your average amusement park vacation. The article is titled Part I, so I am looking forward to hearing more about The Aguilar’s experience. I also had the pleasure of e-mailing with Christa Donner, who is the primary curator of Cultural Reproducers. Both Life’s Soundtrack and Cultural Reproducers are looking to share the stories how parents are making it work while actively creating art, and I am super excited to have found a potential collaborator of content and purpose. Not to mention someone to lean on, when we need some encouragement regarding our side projects and passions that include both of our websites.
